We Got Her!

Well, wow.  Our brand new life as a family began yesterday morning!  I apologize for the delay posting, but the internet access at Bethel is somewhat limited.  We arrived at Bethel at around 9:30am and she was waiting by the door, as you can see.  She was VERY shy at first, until she saw Lia then totally brightened up.  She told us later that my voice sounded very different on the computer and she wasn't sure if it was her real mother until she saw Lia! Once she figured it out, she wouldn't leave our sides the rest of the day, unless it was to chase after and play with her sisters.  She seems to think that I'm a cross between Elvis and the Virgin Mary and I'm not sure how I'm going to live up to that kind of hero love!  ha ha!  I imagine that within a couple of months, she'll be like every other American teenager and will be embarrassed by me.  :-)

Our day was HEAVY with emotions.  She is loved and adored by all around here including staff and ayis (nannies).  Delphine and Guillaime put together a slideshow and ceremony and the whole room was filled with crying, tears, etc.  Her nannies all bawled and gave her a photo album and the kids all hugged her and cried.  The Gauvains think it's really important to have a big ceremony like that so that the child can have some closure. It was one of the hardest things I've ever been a part of, but at the end, all the kids and staff gathered around us and Guillaime prayed over our family.  I can't even type b/c of the tears remembering it.

Last night, we went into Beijing to watch the Bethel choir perform at a holiday concert and fundraiser.  They were so beautiful and a big hit. We were all complete zombies by the time we got back here to Bethel around 10pm.  We didn't even mind the 35 degree bedroom when the electricity went out in the middle of the night!  We doubled up in beds, wore our coats, scarves, gloves and wool socks and slept like logs.

I will run for now but will post more later from Beijing when we have a better internet connection.
Much love!
Debi and BIG family
